Do I have to include my parents' information on my FAFSA?

If you are a considered to be a dependent student, you must include your parents’ information on your FAFSA application. Generally, students under the age of 24 are considered dependent unless they have one of the following exceptions: 

  • Married
  • Active duty military service or a veteran
  • Support more than 50% of children or other dependents 
  • Parents are deceased
  • Emancipated minor 
  • Homeless or at risk of being homeless. 
  • Working on a Master's or doctorate program at the beginning of the 18/19 school year

If the FAFSA application determines you are an "independent" student, you are not required to provide any parent information.
