What is a Specialization?

A Specialization is a well-defined area of study that you can select based on your interests and/or career goals. The Specialization will appear on your transcript with your major and can be used when marketing yourself on your resume.

At CSU Global, MOST graduate students are required to choose a specialization to complete along with their major courses. Each graduate specialization is comprised of four courses. Check the academic catalog to find more specific information about your program and see which specializations are available. Your student Success Counselor can help you add a specialization or you can do so in your portal by clicking on the add/remove specializations box.

While not required, undergraduate students might also benefit from adding a specialization. Each undergraduate specialization is made up of five courses. Credits from undergraduate specializations fulfill 15 required elective credits.

Specialization availability is based on the catalog in effect during the time of your enrollment and not every specialization is available for every major. Be sure to contact your Student Success Counselor to discuss these options.  Your student Success Counselor can help you add a specialization or you can do so in your portal by clicking on the add/remove specializations box.

Please Note: Your specialization will not be listed on your diploma. After completing a declared specialization, you are eligible to request a Certificate of Completion by completing a Certificate of Completion request form.
